What is a Jailbreak?
Jailbreaking is the process of freeing your iPhone/iPod/iPad/apple TV from the restrictions Apple put into iOS. Nearly all jailbreaks give you the Cydia store, an alternative to the app store, which gives you access to themes, tweaks, apps and widgets that weren't possible with normal iOS. Jailbreaks do this by accessing the software code for iOS, and giving apps the ability to edit the code themselves (Cydia).
You might want to jailbreak for all sorts of reasons, but the most common is to get a better notifications features off Cydia. Despite what you might think, jailbreaking does not give you the app store or iTunes for free. To do that, you must first download apps off Cydia that allow you to do it.

Tethered and Untethered?
The difference between tethered and un-tethered is that for a tethered jailbreak, you cant turn your device off, which is annoying if it crashes, and you have to re-jailbreak it. Un-tethered is when you can turn your device off, because the jailbreak gets further into the code and edits it more. All the jailbreaks on this website will be un-tethered.
